Fiscal Year 2025
2,242
Loans Approved
$1.21B
Total Value
Lenders approved 2,242 SBA 7(a) loans for Colorado businesses in fiscal year 2025, worth $1.21 billion in total. A year earlier it was 1,797 loans and $936 million. So the money is there. What most borrowers struggle with is getting their deal onto the desk of a lender that actually wants it and can get it done.
7aSavvy is an SBA 7(a) loan broker in Colorado. You tell us about the deal (the price, the industry, what the money is for, and basic info about the business) and we introduce you to lenders that are closing that kind of loan right now. A restaurant buyout in Fort Collins, a dental practice purchase in Colorado Springs, and a hotel in Summit County are three different credit conversations, and they rarely belong with the same lender.
SBA 7(a) Loans for Colorado Borrowers
Colorado’s SBA market is busy, but it is not spread evenly. The Denver metro alone received over half of the SBA dollars in 2025, with the rest more thinly spread around the state.
The average Colorado SBA 7(a) loan in fiscal year 2025 came to roughly $540,000. Most loans are smaller than that, but a lower amount of large real estate loans, especially in the Denver area, skew the numbers. Those larger deals are the best fit for an SBA loan broker: due to their complexity, lender fit matters the most. Instead of pitching the same file to five banks and waiting on five answers, you start with the short list of lenders whose size range, industry focus, and location match your request.
Why Colorado Business Owners Start With 7aSavvy
Most borrowers begin at a bank they already use, not an SBA loan broker. Sometimes that works. Often the bank turns out to do very little SBA lending, avoids the industry, or wants every deposit account moved over before it will talk. For example, some of the biggest national banks will not finance a car wash at all. Here is what 7aSavvy does differently as a Colorado SBA loan broker:
- Free to you. Lenders pay our fee when your loan funds. Colorado borrowers pay 7aSavvy nothing for the match.
- 100+ lender connections. Banks, credit unions, and non-bank SBA lenders, local and national, with introductions made to a VP or higher.
- Placement by loan, borrower, and location. Lenders usually have a lane they’re best at: business-only acquisitions, SBA loans with real estate, hotels, gas stations. We place your request in the lane that fits it.
- Lender-side experience. Our founders bring more than 35 years of SBA lending experience, including two decades as a business development officer at top SBA banks. We know what a credit officer will ask before the question comes.
How 7aSavvy Works for Colorado Deals
Step 1: Tell us about the deal. The Get Connected form takes a few minutes, with separate paths for loans under $350,000 and loans of $350,000 or more.
Step 2: We review it like a lender would. We look at the use of proceeds, the loan size, the industry, and the documents an underwriter will want, and we flag the soft spots early.
Step 3: We introduce you to the right lender. You speak with a decision-maker at a lender that funds Colorado SBA 7(a) loans like yours, not a general inbox.
Step 4: We stay with it to closing. If the first lender is not the right fit, we move the request to the next one. Most SBA 7(a) loans take 45 to 90 days from start to finish.
Our SBA 7(a) Lender Connections in Colorado
SBA 7(a) lenders are not interchangeable, and Colorado shows it clearly. In fiscal year 2025, 152 different lenders made at least one SBA 7(a) loan in the state, but only 35 of them made ten or more. Most lenders on that list do a few Colorado deals a year.
Another detail surprises most borrowers: about 92% of SBA 7(a) loans in Colorado last year came from lenders headquartered outside the state, roughly $1.1 billion of the $1.21 billion total. The branch on your corner is rarely where Colorado SBA money actually comes from.

Look at the averages and the list stops looking like a simple ranking. Live Oak averaged about $1.2 million per Colorado loan. Northeast Bank averaged under $170,000. Both are busy SBA lenders, and they are built for very different deals. A bigger lender isn’t always the better lender for your loan.
Determining the right lender is the job of an SBA 7(a) loan broker in Colorado. Our high-level lender connections include Celtic Bank, GBank, Huntington, and Ready Capital, among 100+ lenders nationwide. We track which lenders are hungry for loans right now and which ones prefer acquisitions, real estate, hotels, or smaller requests. We also match you with the right person inside that lender, since skill and focus vary from one loan officer to the next even at the same bank.
Uses of SBA 7(a) Loan Proceeds in Colorado
Colorado borrowers use SBA 7(a) financing for:
- Business acquisitions, including partner buyouts and purchases from retiring owners
- Owner-occupied commercial real estate
- Equipment purchases and replacement
- Ground-up construction, remodels, and tenant buildouts
- Refinancing eligible business debt
- Working capital, inventory, and opening another location
These can be combined in one SBA 7(a) loan. A buyer taking over a car wash in Aurora can finance the business, the land under it, and new tunnel equipment in one SBA 7(a) loan with one payment. The one firm boundary: the property has to be used by your operating business. A rental building you plan to lease out to other tenants is passive investment real estate, and the 7(a) program will not finance it.
SBA 7(a) Loan Industries in Colorado
Along the Front Range, from Fort Collins through Denver to Colorado Springs and Pueblo, SBA 7(a) loans go to restaurants, dental and medical practices, contractors, manufacturers, car washes, gas stations, and professional service firms. In the mountain towns, hotels, lodges, and restaurants make up much of the demand.
Liquor stores were actually the largest Colorado industry by SBA 7(a) dollars in fiscal year 2025, with 87 loans worth about $67.9 million. Full-service restaurants followed with 104 loans and $57.9 million, then dental offices at $48.8 million and hotels at $40.7 million.
Each of those reads differently to a lender. A lodge in Breckenridge or Steamboat Springs earns most of its money in ski season and again in summer, with slow shoulder months in between, requiring a lender that understands seasonal hospitality businesses. Liquor store buyers face their own question: Colorado grocery and convenience stores have been allowed to sell wine since March 1, 2023, so expect a lender to study the store’s sales since then. A manufacturer in the Denver metro needs a lender comfortable with equipment-heavy collateral.
As an SBA 7(a) loan broker for Colorado businesses, 7aSavvy sends each of these to lenders that already understand that industry’s cash flow and collateral, so you don’t have to explain your business model from scratch.
Colorado SBA 7(a) Loan Terms and Interest Rates
- Loan amounts up to $5 million
- Down payments commonly 10%
- Terms up to 25 years with real estate, up to 10 years without
- Fully amortizing payments with no balloon
SBA 7(a) interest rates are quoted as the prime rate plus a spread, usually somewhere between prime + 1.0 and prime + 3.0, in steps of 0.25. With prime at 7.00%, a loan priced at prime + 2.0 would carry a 9.00% rate. Most 7(a) loans are variable, so the payment moves when prime moves, although some lenders offer a fixed rate for part of the term.
Two Colorado borrowers with similar businesses can get different rates, because the spread depends on how the lender judges the loan. A lender that wants your deal tends to price it better. Getting your request to the lender most interested in it is the most practical way a Colorado SBA loan broker can help on rate.
